VOLUNTEER LEVY

Introduction of a Volunteer Levy at Thistles Ladies Hockey Club

Sports clubs, including Thistles Ladies Hockey Club, are run by and rely heavily on volunteers to maintain operations and enhance member experiences.However, attracting and retain volunteers is a significant challenge. To address this, we have introduced a Volunteer Levy to improve volunteer engagement and support club activities.

$30 per player or $50 per family (2 or more members of one family)

What is a Volunteer Levy?

A volunteer levy is a financial contribution from members to support the cost of attracting and managing volunteers.The funds will be used to compensate or incentivise volunteers in roles like committee positions, coaches, managers and general tasks (club day, market days, junior development sessions, and Club meetings).The levy will be refundable to members who actively participate in these volunteer roles.

Benefits of a Volunteer Levy

Sustainability: helps ensure ongoing volunteer engagement as there is currently insufficient funding from fees and sponsorship.

Incentivisation: Members contributing financially are more likely to participate in volunteer activities.

Equity & Fairness: Shares the financial responsibility for volunteer programs fairly among all members especially to those with limited time for volunteering.

How will it work?

A volunteer levy of $30 per player and/or 1 levy per family of $50 will be introduced.

To qualify for a refund members must complete at least 3 volunteer roles for the season.

Volunteer Roles:

· Ratified committee positions – eg including management committee, coaches, managers, coordinators.

· Additional activities must be approved by the Management committee prior to completion.

· Volunteers must register for the Volunteer Opportunities. (form to be completed) coming soon.

Additional information

· The levy is required to be paid with registration fees before the start of the season begins at the time of the Club's sign on levy.

· Refunds are available only if volunteer activities are completed.

Refund Process

· Volunteer Levy Reimbursement form must be completed and emailed to the treasurer@thistleshockeyclub@gmail.com after completion of all required volunteer hours ( 5 - 10 hours). Refund form will come out soon.

This structure aims to balance financial contributions and active participation in club activities ensuring fairness and sustainability and reducing the load to the same regular volunteers of the club.

Volunteer Roles

· Working bees – Thistles

· BBQ Help – Bunnings and club day

· Assist with Meat raffles

· Selling of raffle tickets

· Creating social media content for the club

· Assisting with a coaching session - senior Div 1 or 2 players only

· Hin2H assistance

· Annual Club room clean up

· Helping with recruitment – attend market stalls

· Attend club meetings

· Washing of club uniforms
