Club History

Thistles Ladies Hockey Club (est. 1938) is the oldest hockey club participating in the local Ipswich hockey competition. The Club caters for all levels of playing experience, consisting of teams for Women (Over 15 yrs) and Junior teams (U15, and U12 years) plus also catering for the younger children 4 - 12 years, who participate in a Hook in2 Hockey Program. Boys are more than welcome to play in the Hook in2 Hockey program as it is a mixed program.

All new junior players to the Club will receive a hockey pack, making their introduction to the game easier with the right equipment.

Thistles Hockey Club has been very successful over the years winning many premierships in all grades. In 2025 in the Senior Competiton, the Div 1 team reached the Prelim Finals, Div 2 and 3 just missed out on the final series and the Div 4 Ladies being 2025 Premiers, Minor Premiers and Mid Season Winners. 

The Junior teams also did well in the 2025 season, with the J1 (U15) Girls team reaching the finals but were knocked out in the Semi Finals.  The J2 (U12) and were also knocked out semi final and that was the end of the road for both teams in 2025.  

Training days for all Thistles teams in 2026 will be on a Tuesday, with juniors commencing at 5 pm and finishing at 6.30 pm and Seniors commencing from 6.30m pm and finishing at approximately 8.30 pm.

All training takes place at the Ipswich Hockey grounds, Briggs Road, Raceview. All the local competition is also conducted at these grounds.

All Club Coaches have Blue cards NCAS/HockeyEd accredited.

The hockey season runs from March to September. Come and try out the new water and hybrid based facilities as all players use these artificial surfaces.

The Club welcomes all new players regardless of their level of hockey. Club fees are reasonable and compariable to other clubs.
